Crunchy on the outside, moist with onion bits on the inside!

Green Onion Pancakes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup room temperature water

  • 4 stalks green onion, trimmed and chopped

  • 1/2 teaspoon five-spice powder

  • Salt

  • Oil



Method:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt and water to form a dough

  2. In the same bowl, knead dough for two minutes

  3. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and rest dough for 10 minutes

  4. Smear a little oil on a board

  5. Take the dough out and knead on the board for 5-6 minutes until smooth

  6. Put the dough back to the bowl

  7. Brush a little oil on dough surface and cover bowl again

  8. Rest dough for 1 hour

  9. In another bowl, mix green onions, 1/2 teaspoon salt, five-spice powder and 1 tablespoon flour

  10. Heat 3 tablespoons oil in pan over medium heat

  11. Pour hot oil into the green onion mixture and mix well to form the filling

  12. Divide dough into 4 equal portions and work one portion at a time

  13. Use hands to roll each portion into a smooth ball

  14. Use a rolling pin to roll the ball into a strip as thin as possible without tearing it, about 8-10 inches long

  15. Spread 1/4 filling all the way to the end of strip

  16. Roll up the strip from one of the long sides to form a rope

  17. Gently pull the rope without breaking it

  18. Coil the rope to form a flat circle

  19. Tuck the end of the rope at the bottom of the circle

  20. Heat 2 tablespoons oil in pan over medium heat

  21. Fry pancakes until crispy on both sides

  22. Serve warm
