Ingredients for dough:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup warm water

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 3 tablespoons sesame seeds

  • Oil


Ingredients for shortening:

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 teaspoon five spice powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 3 tablespoons oil


Method:

  1. For dough, combine flour, salt and water in a bowl and mix well

  2. Cover bowl for 10 minutes

  3. In the same bowl, knead dough for 10 minutes until smooth

  4. Cover bowl and rest dough for 1 hour

  5. For shortening, combine flour, five spice powder, salt and oil in a small bowl and set aside

  6. Sprinkle a little flour on kneading mat

  7. Transfer dough to mat

  8. With a rolling pin, roll dough into a 10”x10” sheet

  9. Spread shortening on sheet

  10. Roll sheet up to form a sausage

  11. Divide sausage into 8 equal portions

  12. Shape each portion into a ball

  13. Roll each ball into a sheet as thin as possible

  14. Sprinkle sesame seeds on one side of the sheet

  15. Use the rolling pin to press the sesame seeds into sheet

  16. Heat 1 teaspoon oil in pan over medium heat

  17. Place one sheet in pan and brown both sides (do not burn the sesame seeds)

  18. Serve warm
