Nasi Goreng

Authentic Indonesian fried rice.

Nasi Goreng

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups cold, cooked white rice

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 cloves shallot, minced

  • 1/2 chili pepper, minced

  • 3 stalks green onion, chopped

  • 3 tablespoons oil

  • 1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce

  • 1 teaspoon Thai shrimp paste

  • A few drops fish sauce


Method:

  1. Heat oil in pan over medium heat

  2. Add garlic, shallot and chili pepper

  3. Stir constantly until fragrance released

  4. Add rice and stir a few times

  5. Add sweet soy sauce, shrimp paste and fish sauce and mix well

  6. Add green onions and stir a few times

  7. Serve warm. Can be served with fried eggs, fried peanuts, tomato wedges and cucumber slices


NOTE: All ingredients can be found at a Chinese market.
